Stratford is a town in Fairfield County, situated on Long Island Sound along Connecticut’s “Gold Coast” at the mouth of the Housatonic River. Stratford was founded by Puritans in 1639.
Stratford has a historical legacy in aviation, the military, and theater. Stratford was one of the two principal settlements in southwestern Connecticut, the other being Fairfield. Over time it gave rise to several new towns that broke off and incorporated separately.
Living in Stratford offers residents a sparse suburban feel with coffee shops and parks. Many young professionals and retirees live in Stratford. The public schools in Stratford are above average.
